First, consider the Drake Equation:

The Drake equation is:

N = R* × f_p × n_e × f_l × f_i × f_c × L

where

N = the number of civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy with which communication might be possible (i.e. which are on the current past light cone);

and

R_∗ = the average rate of star formation in our Galaxy.
f_p = the fraction of those stars that have planets.
n_e = the average number of planets that can potentially support life per star that has planets.
f_l = the fraction of planets that could support life that actually develop life at some point.
f_i = the fraction of planets with life that go on to develop intelligent life (civilizations).
f_c = the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that releases detectable signs of their existence into space.
L = the length of time for which such civilizations release detectable signals into space.

This form of the equation first appeared in Drake's 1965 paper.

Westhaver Equation principle:

There is no evidence of intelligent extraterrestrial life. There is only speculation and numerical conjecture. The evidence is clear. Only one planet possesses intelligent life. Earth.

Therefore: N = 1.

So, the Drake equation is missing factors that have the effect of reducing the calculated N to 1. It is proposed that there needs to be sufficient factors, possibly some of which are as of yet unknown, that in totality, yield N = 1. That is what the evidence shows.

The Westhaver Equation

1 = R* × f_p × n_e × f_l × f_i × f_c × L × f_k1 × f_k2 × f_k3 × … × f_kn

What each term means:

R* — average rate of star formation in the galaxy (stars per year)
f_p — fraction of those stars with planets
n_e — average number of habitable-zone planets per star
f_l — fraction of those planets where life emerges
f_i — fraction where life becomes intelligent
f_c — fraction of intelligent life that develops detectable technology
L — average lifetime of such civilizations (years)
f_k1, f_k2, f_k3, …, f_kn — factors yet unknown, but must exist, because the only evidence we have is there is only one "1" intelligent civilization: EARTH
